Style Diaries: Samantha Mowery
Hi Sam! For those who may not know you, can you introduce yourself and tell us a bit about where you are based and what you do?
Hiiii! My name is Samantha Mowery, I am an NYC based content creator who focuses on nostalgic 90s and 2000s fashion! I'm a full time content creator and have worked with dozens of brands from Ebay, Juicy Couture and Converse to MTV, Instagram and L’oréal Paris. I've been obsessed with being in front of and behind the camera since I was a kid, so being a full time content creator is truly my dream job.
How have your surroundings influenced your personal style?
Growing up surrounded by 2000s pop culture has had a huge impact on my style now, from the music videos and movies I watched to what the older kids were wearing to school. I’ve always been constantly inspired and drawn to that eras use of excessive sequins and low rise jeans. Now more than ever, (because I'm older and have adult money to spend on mini skirts LOL) bending those nostalgic Y2k elements into my outfits - it’s my way of staying connected to what created my love for fashion.
Can you walk us through your thought process when you get dressed for the day? Are there any style rules you tend to inherently stick to when getting dressed?
Since majority of the time I work from home, I like to be comfortable so I typically just go straight into my Juicy Couture closet. I wish I was joking, but I literally have a closet just full of Juicy couture tracksuits, bags, slogan tees and accessories. The velour and terrycloth iconic matching sets are definitely my go too.
What or who has been inspiring you lately?
One thing I love to do to get inspiration is watch old Runway shows. Whether it’s Victoria’s Secret 2005 or Emilio Pucci's 2006 show, it feeds the creativity I need for putting together outfits or coming up with a video idea.
How do you navigate staying true to your personal style without being influenced by every new trend that pops up?
I’d honestly say to just avoid purchasing items that come as a trend and go for the pieces that grab you!
What’s one item you’re excited to wear this Fall?
An item I'm excited to wear this fall is definitely my vintage penny lane coats! I’m a sucker for anything with a fur trim.
In what outfit do you feel the most you?
This is such a good question, an outfit I feel the most me in, is definitely a mini skirt the size of a belt, knee high pointed toe boots, a 2000s D&G or Moschino tank, with a juicy couture zip up zipped up just a-little. Oh and my rainbow Louis Vuitton Murikami bag.
What’s one item that you think everyone should have in their closet?
One item everyone should have in their closet, no doubt, is a juicy tracksuit. It’s so comfortable and cute for literally anything. Grocery shopping? Going to the office? Lounging at home watching Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen? Always a Juicy Tracksuit.
This? Or That!
Leather or Denim?
This is the hardest question I've ever had to answer in my life, but I'm gonna say denim!
